The debate over who truly leads the Afrobeats scene has taken an intriguing turn following two editions of the Afrobeats Rumble.

This fan-driven contest has revealed a clear pattern, with Wizkid and Burna Boy standing out as the most consistent frontrunners, while Davido is bolstering his position in the traditional Big 3 discussion.

Wizkid has arguably delivered the most impactful performance so far, having won both editions of the competition. He reached the final each time and defeated Burna Boy, making him the only artist to remain unbeaten through both rounds. Meanwhile, Burna Boy has also reached the finals twice but has had to settle for second place.

Davido’s performance in the second edition has also shifted the narrative. After failing to reach the semi-finals in the first edition, he came back strong in 2025, making it to the last four. His semi-final match against Burna Boy ended in a tight 53–47 result, demonstrating just how competitive his fan base is compared to the two artists who have dominated the finals.

The biggest question now is the identity of Afrobeats’ fourth heavyweight. Rema and Asake secured semi-final spots in the 2024 edition, while Olamide reached that stage in 2025. However, none of them have managed to consistently secure their spot, leaving the fourth position wide open. Rema offers international crossover appeal, Asake brings recent cultural dominance, and Olamide’s extensive catalog gives him a unique advantage.

With the 2026 edition approaching, the Afrobeats Rumble might offer even more insight. Wizkid will aim for an unprecedented third consecutive title, while Davido will strive to break into the final and challenge the Wizkid-Burna Boy pattern. Rema, Asake, and Olamide will also seek to transform a single semi-final showing into a consistent claim for Afrobeats’ elusive fourth spot.
