The organisers of The Headies Awards have announced a new date for the 18th edition’s Toronto finale, moving the highly anticipated event to April 10 and 11, 2027. The announcement, published on October 10, comes as the organisers expand the awards’ Nigeria–Canada programme.
The development means fans will have to wait longer for the main Toronto finale, which was previously scheduled for October 25, 2026. The postponement comes after the release of this year’s nominations, which placed several Nigerian music stars in contention for some of the industry’s biggest honours.
Among the leading nominees is FOLA, who secured 10 nominations, followed by Omah Lay with eight. Wizkid and Mavo each earned seven nominations, while Davido and Asake received six nominations apiece. Ayra Starr and Tiwa Savage also emerged among the leading female contenders, with five nominations each.
The 18th edition, themed “Africa to the World”, is part of The Headies’ continued effort to showcase African music to an international audience. Its planned Toronto finale also reflects the awards’ expanding international presence, bringing Nigerian and other African music talents into the spotlight beyond the continent.
With the new dates now announced, attention will turn to the nominees and the eventual winners across the different categories. Fans will be watching closely to see which artistes emerge victorious, particularly in competitive categories such as Next Rated, Song of the Year and Album of the Year.
